This course explores Florentine Renaissance art, offering an original and stimulating overview. The artworks will be examined in relation to the sites, history and the reason why they were created.

For example, the meaning, design and execution of the piazza will be analyzed in political and religious terms in order to understand the sense and use of space, while also availing of original documents.
Likewise, other important Renaissance monuments will be examined by tracing back to the events and choices underlying their realization.

Lessons will be held in the classroom, but also and more importantly, in the specific places referred to in Florence, the rest of Tuscany, and beyond.
