Like the travellers of the 19th century, our students are encouraged to sketch ‘slices of life’ and views they find particularly interesting. Their materials go from ink to charcoal, from pastels to watercolour.

The teacher supplies a pencil and sketchpad and, after having noted each student’s level of skill and experience, suggests a series of sites (city squares, churches, museums) from which the student may select his or her subject, guides the student through the process of choosing a characteristic view, a group of statues, a building to depict, to experience en plein air sketching firsthand.
