This course is intended for students who want to learn techniques for restoring books, drawings and prints, or improve their skills in this area.

After several introductory lessons on the theory of restoration and materials and tools, students will learn how to remove papers from supports and how to clean and restore works on paper, how to bind volumes with paper, parchment and leather and how to retouch prints and drawings.
The students will work on authentic paper materials from archives, libraries and private donors. The course is subdivided into ten lessons and is held at an outside restoration laboratory. The first course level centres on the basic principles of restoration, from the arrival and identification of a work at the laboratory to museum showing; at the advanced level, intended to perfect students’ grasp of techniques and theories, students will conduct restoration of a paper-based work from start to finish.
